0.2ml Syringe

The Zero Residual™ 0.2mL silicone-free syringe is the first silicone-free syringe designed for intravitreal injections that has been CE approved under the new MDR guidelines. Ophthalmologists played an important role during the development of this syringe. Its unique design provides many advantages over currently used syringes. In addition to the syringe SJJ Solutions also offers knowledge and training – including tools and explainer videos – to enable precise, safe, air-free and effective prefilling of small dose (intravitreal) injections. Backed by an extensive publicly available stability study we believe our Zero Residual™ 0.2mL silicone-free syringe will revolutionize the intravitreal injection market.

The Zero Residual™ concept ensures precise dosing and control throughout the procedure, prioritizing safety. It allows users to prefill syringes air-free and eliminates the risk of silicone oil contamination, offering a silicone oil-free preparation. With a low residual volume, it maximizes medication use and reduces waste.

Currently, ophthalmologists use Zero Residual™ primarily for anti-VEGF injections to treat wet-AMD, DME, and related ocular diseases. Ongoing discussions with healthcare professionals aim to further enhance the concept.

Designed for Ocular Safety

Silicone Oil-free

Unlike traditional syringes, the 0.2ml Zero Residual™ silicone oil-free syringe is completely silicone oil-free, reducing risks associated with Silicone Oil (SiO) exposure. Silicone oil has been linked to protein aggregation, immune reactions, and vitreous floaters that may require surgical removal. By eliminating SiO, 0.2ml Zero Residual™ silicone oil-free syringe helps protect ocular health, ensuring a safer choice for intravitreal injections.

Smoother injection speeds

Faster injection speeds can lead to sudden intraocular pressure (IOP) elevations, increasing the risk of retinal stress and long-term complications. Standard 1mL syringes provide just 3mm of stroke length for a 0.05mL injection, making it harder to control injection speed and further contributing to IOP fluctuations.

The Zero Residual™ 0.2mL silicone oil-free syringe is designed to minimize these risks. With an extended 11mm stroke length, it allows for smoother plunger movement, precise dosage control, and a more stable injection experience. By eliminating silicone oil and optimizing stroke length, Zero Residual™ prioritizes safety and precision in every intravitreal injection.

Maximizing Yield, Minimizing Waste

No Residual Volume

The design of the Zero Residual™ 0.2mL silicone oil-free syringe allows for zero waste of expensive anti-VEGF medicines. This makes the syringe the most economically interesting syringe to be used for intravitreal injections. The syringe itself has an advantage of at least 20uL over currently used 1mL silicone oil-free syringes.

Luer Lock

Luer Slip

Luer Lock vs Luer Slip

Intravitreal syringes typically feature either a Luer Lock or Luer Slip attachment. A Luer Lock provides a significantly tighter connection—reducing the risk of leakage and needle pop-off by up to 40% compared to Luer Slip. This secure fit is especially crucial when using small-gauge needles, where even minor leakage can impact dosing accuracy and reduce drug yield.

To ensure precise delivery and maximize every dose, the Zero Residual™ 0.2mL silicone oil-free syringe is designed with a Luer Lock attachment, offering a secure and controlled injection experience.

Precision Delivered with Enhanced Control

Total length

The length of the Zero Residual™ 0.2mL silicone oil-free syringe was carefully selected by ophthalmologists. Shorter, more comfortable syringes are easier to
handle for many ophthalmologists, offering improved ergonomics that enhance ease of use, making them a preferred option.

Barrel Diameter

The Zero Residual™ syringe features a tighter inner diameter of 2.48mm, significantly smaller than other industry standard syringes. A wider barrel increases the risk of misalignment, which can lead to dosing inaccuracies and higher injection forces. By reducing the inner diameter, Zero Residual™ enhances precision, ensures smoother plunger movement, and minimizes injection-related variability—providing greater control for ophthalmic procedures.
